Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Johannesburg, South Africa, heading to Luanda, Angola, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the AU-EU Summit in the Angolan capital.
This trip comes after he wrapped up his participation in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa, where he also stood in for President Tinubu.
According to a statement from his Media Assistant, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President will be joining other Heads of State and Government from the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) for the 7th meeting of these two organizations, which is set to occur from November 24 to 25, 2025, in Luanda.
The AU-EU summit is expected to gather young leaders, innovators, and civil society organizations to discuss common challenges faced by both unions. Tinubu has instructed the withdrawal of police officers assigned to VIPs.
The statement further noted that the meeting aims to offer recommendations on addressing issues such as climate change, inclusivity in development, infrastructure, the digital economy, the creative industry, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
“The Vice President will return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the AU-EU summit,” the statement concluded.
