Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, the executive chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, has stepped down from his position as council chairman and resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Tuesday, media were given access to two distinct resignation letters that conveyed the judgements.
Kalanjeni declared his immediate departure from the ruling party in a letter dated May 5, 2026, sent to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward in Tangaza Local Government Area.
He said it was a deeply personal choice.
My resignation from the APC is effective immediately, and I am writing to formally notify you of this fact. I have made this decision for my own selfish reasons.
In a separate letter dated July 7, 2026, Kalanjeni also announced his resignation as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area. The letter was written to the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
He made it clear that his resignation was effective right away.
The ex-chairman of the council stated that he discussed the matter with members of his family, political supporters, and prominent members of the community before making the decision.
“This challenging decision has been made following thorough discussions with my loved ones, important political allies, and community members.”
One of the reasons Kalanjeni gave for resigning was that he was unable to adequately carry out his duties due to administrative hurdles.
“I have been unable to fulfil the duties of this position to the level that has been anticipated of me as a result of contemporary, inescapable administrative obstacles.”
He was grateful to the Tangaza people, the local legislature, and the council staff for the opportunity to serve. Success to the new government was also his aim.
No formal comment regarding Kalanjeni’s departure from the party and his role as council chairman has been made by the Sokoto State Government or the APC as of yet.
