During a routine operation in Katsina’s Danmusa Local Government Area, troops from the 17 Brigade detained a guy suspected of banditry.
According to security sources, the suspect, Lawal Sani, was apprehended at 3:14 p.m. on July 15 when soldiers returning from an operation in Bakori paused momentarily in Yantumaki.
According to Zagazola Malama, a security expert, investigators checked the suspect’s phone and purportedly discovered a video of him carrying an AK-47 gun.
“Upon the discovery, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee but was quickly subdued and arrested by the troops,” the sources reported.
Security officers seized a motorcycle, two mobile phones (Infinix and Tecno), a photocopy of a National Identity Card, a Moniepoint ATM card, an MTN SIM card and 5,020 cash.
The suspect is currently being held by the military until investigations are conducted, after which he may face trial.
