The Ebonyi NUJ is calling for candidates to run on issues in the upcoming 2027 elections

In the run-up to the 2027 general election, the Ebonyi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has issued a caution against the use of character assassination, inflammatory speech, and polarising politics, urging politicians and other political players to adopt issue-based campaigns.

The union’s congress, which concluded on Friday at Abakaliki’s Dr. Sam Egwu Press Centre and was chaired by Comrade Samson Nwafor of the State Council, contained the call in a communiqué.

The state’s political leaders were admonished by the congress to follow the rules of the election and put their energy into initiatives that would foster democracy and peace.

Concerning agriculture, the union voiced its displeasure with the state government’s handling of government farm inputs, urging them to expedite delivery to legitimate farmers in order to increase food production and food security.

‎To lessen the likelihood of flooding during the rainiest part of the year, the congressmen urged people living in areas prone to flooding to listen carefully to safety advice given by the appropriate authorities and to stay away from anything that could obstruct drainage systems.

‎The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has asked Governor Francis Nwifuru to re-allot land from the EBSU Pocket Layout to their proposed journalists’ housing estate after the government revoked their previous allocation.

‎There was a reiteration of the journalists’ pledge to work for Ebonyi State’s sustainable development, responsible journalism, and peace.
