The NCC explains the reasons behind the network issues in Abuja

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has recognized the Quality of Service (QoS) challenges currently faced in Abuja, which have impacted the telecommunications experience for subscribers.

In response, the Commission mentioned that it is working together with key stakeholders and licensees to tackle these issues, noting that they are primarily due to disruptions in diesel supply affecting IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider responsible for powering Airtel and MTN base stations in the impacted regions.

As per the NCC, these challenges stem from the actions of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which have interrupted diesel supplies to various sites, resulting in telecommunications service outages in Abuja.

The NCC emphasized its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted communication services for all Nigerians and acknowledges the critical role of a reliable power supply in delivering optimal telecommunication services.

The Commission stated that it is actively engaging with relevant stakeholders to resolve the diesel supply issues and is exploring sustainable solutions, encouraging all parties to collaborate in swiftly addressing these challenges by eliminating the diesel supply bottlenecks that are affecting essential telecommunications infrastructure due to NOGASA’s actions.

In light of these challenges, the NCC remarked: “We reaffirm our dedication to creating a favorable environment for the growth and sustainability of telecommunications services in Nigeria. We are taking proactive measures to facilitate discussions between the affected service providers and other stakeholders to quickly resolve the diesel supply issues that have adversely impacted service quality.”

The Commission also mentioned that it remains committed to effectively managing the situation and will keep the public informed about the progress made towards restoring full telecommunication services in Abuja. We appreciate the understanding and patience of telecommunications subscribers during this period.
