Donald Ojogo, a lawmaker from Ondo State’s Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency, has criticised Abubakar Malami, a former attorney general, for criticising the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for ending national hardship by endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
Malami, according to Naijatrial, criticised the APC of ignoring important national concerns while backing Tinubu for the 2027 elections while speaking at a meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North) in Abuja.
“At its national summit not long ago, the ruling party opted to endorse President Tinubu for re-election, despite the fact that the election is still two years away, rather than addressing urgent issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and rising poverty,” Malami said.
Quickly releasing a statement in response, Ojogo characterised Malami’s comments as malicious and hypocritical.
I am not speaking for the president or my party as a federal senator, but I cannot turn a blind eye to Malami’s bold antics, particularly in light of his contentious role under Buhari.
“The hypocrisy of Malami’s remarks is hilarious. He must be really underestimating the memory of the Nigerian people if he thinks we have forgotten what he did as AGF. Ojogo claimed that his time in office was marked by inconsistencies with the values he now claims to uphold.
In addition, when serving as Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo State under the administration of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the federal lawmaker accused Malami of being a significant roadblock to security efforts in the South-West sector.
The kidnapping and murder spree in the region would have escalated, he claims, if not for the audacity of governors like Akeredolu in the South who disregarded Malami’s concerns. He went on to criticise Malami’s supposedly jaded perspective of federalism and his resistance to state police.
