Tor Tiv informs Tinubu that politicians are trying to politicise the problem by calling for a state of emergency

Tor Tiv James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, paramount monarch of Benue, has made accusations that certain politicians are seeking the declaration of a state of emergency.

Some politicians, according to Tor Tiv, are trying to use the crisis as an opportunity to declare a state of emergency in Benue State.

On Wednesday, he made the remarks while meeting with Tinubu and other stakeholders in Makurdi, the capital of the state.

After herdsmen massacred more than 200 villagers in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, and other parts of Benue State, Tinubu went to the state to investigate.

Over the previous few months, the state’s crisis has claimed the lives of more than 300 individuals across multiple local administrations.

Nevertheless, Tor Tiv expressed concern about lawmakers in the state politicising the situation and shifting blame instead of working together to resolve it.

There are politicians out there who would even want the crisis to go worse so they can use it to declare a state of emergency in Benue State.

This is tragic, Your Excellency, and the people of Benue State do not support politicians that advocate for the killing of more people in the name of this project.

We, the people of Benue State, paid the ultimate price to ensure that our nation remained united; many of our citizens perished in the civil war.

“What gives us the right to expect this treatment? This massacre is just one of many in this state, and you have come to console us. What has Benue State done to deserve what we are experiencing?

“Sir, we believe you have what it takes to put an end to the genocide in Benue State and the instability across Nigeria. We beg you to do it.”
