Two attorneys representing the PDP make an appearance in Wabara, while others sue INEC over their clients’ pursuit of recognition.
On Friday, the Board of Trustees (BoT) headed by Senator Adolphus Wabara sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and two PDP attorneys appeared for the PDP in the Abuja Federal High Court case. The drama in the case was kept to a minimum.
The PDP’s interim National Working Committee (NWC), headed by Kabiru Turaki, is requesting that INEC acknowledge it on its website; the case is currently before Justice Salim Ibrahim.
The new lawsuit was brought by the PDP and the BoT.
After receiving the party’s interim NWC from the plaintiffs and the NEC, the plaintiffs asked the electoral umpire to publish it on the party’s official website and update its records.
They said that letters dated May 4 were used to send the identities of NWC members led by Kabiru Turaki to the electoral umpire.
On June 4, a group of solicitors headed by Chief Chris Uche, SAN, filed the initial summons with the case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1159/2026.
Among the individuals named as plaintiffs are Adolphus Wabara, a former Senate President; Muazu Babangida Aliyu, a former governor of Niger State and BoT secretary; Prof. Jerry Gana, a former minister of information; and Olabode George, a PDP chieftain, who is listed as the first to fourth plaintiff.
Hajiya Maryam Ciroma, a former minister of women’s affairs and social development; Dame Esther Uduehi, a member of the board of trustees and the national executive committee; and the PDP are the other plaintiffs, numbering five through eight, respectively.
With INEC as the only defendant, the plaintiffs filed a lawsuit.
During Friday’s case call, Chief Gordy Uche, SAN, announced that he will be appearing on behalf of all eight plaintiffs, including the PDP (the eighth plaintiff).
On the other hand, Mr. Sunday Ameh, SAN, who represented the 8th plaintiff (PDP), rose to his feet not long after Uche did.
Nevertheless, the change caused considerable ambiguity in the legal system.
On Friday, the court heard arguments from a number of notable figures, including PDP factional national chairman Tanimu Turaki and Prof. Jerry Gana.
