Umar Sani, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asserted that former President Goodluck Jonathan has acquired a presidential nomination form in anticipation of the 2027 general election.
Sani disclosed the information during an appearance on Trust TV on Tuesday.
Jonathan’s actions, according to him, suggest a sincere desire to return to partisan politics in anticipation of the upcoming presidential election.
“In politics, action is paramount.” If you are intrigued, there are procedures that must be followed, one of which is the acquisition of nomination forms. Sani stated, “He has accomplished that.”
Sani confirmed that Jonathan had indeed acquired the form, stating, “Yes, and he is on the brink of publicly submitting it.”
Sani also expressed her confidence that the legal challenge against Jonathan’s eligibility to run for the presidency again would be unsuccessful in court.
He contended that the issue had already been resolved through judicial proceedings and could only be reversed by the Supreme Court.
“We are extremely confident that the matter will be dismissed, as it is impossible to re-litigate an issue that has already been resolved,” he stated.
He also stated that the case that is currently pending before Justice Peter Lifu, which is anticipated to be heard on May 26, is likely to be dismissed due to a lack of jurisdiction.
The PDP leader also refuted allegations that Jonathan’s supporters were merely employing his name for political gain, asserting that a significant number of Nigerians harbour nostalgic feelings toward the former president’s administration.
Jonathan was the president of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015, but he was unsuccessful in his bid for reelection against former President Muhammadu Buhari.
