After his son Ifeanyi Adeleke passed away in November 2022, Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage as Davido, took a hiatus from social media. Adeleke asserts that this was the moment the Nigerian music business collapsed.
Throughout the three months off, he claimed, he was begged to come back to social media by both fans and trolls. In a recent interview with Ebro Darden of Apple Music, the musician revealed this.
“The whole [Nigerian music] industry was shut down when I wasn’t active online, so I knew people loved me,” he stated. Things like “Davido, come back” and “It’s so quiet out here” were among the tweets I noticed. My detractors among my fans even pleaded with me, saying, “Please, return so we can bash you.”
According to Naijatrial, Davido removed his kid Ifeanyi off social media in November 2022 following a tragic pool accident at his Lagos residence.
With much anticipation, he took to social media again in March 2023 to unveil the title of his fourth studio album, Timeless.
