The lawmaker for Abia South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has spoken out regarding the reported withdrawal of Nigerian troops in Kebbi State, which led to the abduction of 24 schoolgirls.
In an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a program aired on Arise Television and monitored by Naijatrial on Monday, Abaribe stated that the individual who ordered the troop withdrawal should be held accountable.
According to Naijatrial, Governor Nasir Idris of the state claimed that soldiers assigned to the school were pulled back around 3:00 a.m., and the assailants attacked less than 45 minutes later.
In response, the Abia Senator remarked, “Why is there any debate about this? There is a commander present. There is a chain of command, and whoever authorized the troop withdrawal in Kebbi must be identified.
“The inaction from the government and military leaders creates a perception among the public that there may be some collusion involved. If collusion exists, who can feel secure?
“This implies that even if troops are nearby, I am not safe. One can no longer be certain that the troops around them won’t hand them over to the bandits, making them a victim.
“That is the crux of the matter. There comes a time in our nation’s history where I’m not sure how to express it, but I believe we must put an end to all of this.
