On Saturday, Nyesom Wike, minister of the FCT, swore he would never allow himself to be coerced or blackmailed into taking action against his role. Wike has threatened to eliminate anyone who stands in the way of his plans to revamp the FCT.
While on an inspection tour of Abuja’s IBB International Golf and Country Club, Governor Wike made a solemn commitment to prevent any private entity from seizing control of the federally owned property.
The minister made a solemn promise to return the golf club to its former splendour. The Abuja Golf Club was closed indefinitely due to a crisis involving structural improvements.
“We will not allow anybody to take what belongs to the federal government,” Wike stated, nonetheless. Blackmail won’t be able to influence me. I will eliminate everyone who attempts to undermine me.

The minister promised to update the clubhouse, but he insisted that the organisation pay the ground rent first. If the club does not pay the ground rent, Wike will seal it.
The payment of ground rent in Abuja has recently come under fire from Wike, who has emphasised that taxation, not allocation, is the means by which the capital city of Nigeria is sustained.
The club’s original builder, Julius Berger, will be invited to discuss potential phased renovations. Without payment of the ground fee, he threatened to close the club.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, made a statement in which she pleaded with Wike to step in and help the club through its dilemma.
Renovating the club, according to Dongban-Mensem, will boost the economy.
