Highly divisive The Nigerian musician Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, has received a three-month prison term. In Ogun State, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo handed down a sentence to Portable.
The artist was scheduled to appear before the Magistrates’ Court in Ifo in April 2023 on a three-count accusation of stealing musical instruments and assault, as detailed in his charge sheet No. MIF/192C/2023.
Two members of the artist’s immediate family were appointed sureties, and the singer was later released on bond in the amount of N300,000.
Despite numerous adjournments, he reportedly failed to attend prior sessions and was subsequently remanded after appearing before the court last Thursday.
Inspector Olumide Awoleke, the police prosecutor, had previously informed the court that the offence was perpetrated by Habeeb Okikiola on November 18, 2022, at around 11 am, in Okeosa, Ilogbo, inside the Ifo Magisterial District.
After finding Portable guilty on both counts, Chief Magistrate Ilo handed down sentences: one month in prison with a punishment of up to N10,000 for Count 1, and two months in prison with a fine of up to N20,000 for Count 2.
