The Nasarawa State Police Command has reported the arrest of two suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of students from the Faculty of Engineering at Nasarawa State University’s Gudi Campus, while also verifying the victims’ safe release.
According to a statement made on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the breakthrough resulted from “sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical efforts” by Command personnel.
The suspects were identified by authorities as Abdullahi Yeyi Haro, the suspected leader of the abduction gang, and Basiru Abdullahi, both of whom are from the Gudi community in Nasarawa state.
According to the statement, the suspects were captured following a “diligent investigation and strategic operations aimed at dismantling the criminal network responsible for the abduction.”
The Command also stated that the abducted students had been released and reunited with their families following the operation.
“The abducted students have been safely freed and returned to their families. The victims are currently receiving medical attention and support as a result of their ordeal,” the statement continued.
In response to the development, Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, praised the personnel participating in the operation for their professionalism and dedication to duty.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating abduction and other violent crimes throughout the state, telling citizens that efforts were underway to catch other fleeing members of the syndicate.
“The Command remains determined to rid Nasarawa State of all forms of criminality, particularly kidnapping and other violent crimes,” the statement said, quoting the Commissioner.
The police also thanked members of the public for giving timely information that helped the operation run smoothly, and they asked locals to continue providing genuine intelligence to security agencies.
