Members of the host community have been repeatedly stealing from the institution and damaging its facilities, which the Federal institution Dutse (FUD) has denounced.
This was announced at Tuesday’s pre-convocation conference in the University Senate Chamber by Prof. Abdulkadim Sabo, Vice Chancellor of the University.
He claimed that these actions endanger the campus despite the fact that providing University services to the host and surrounding communities is the university’s corporate social obligation.
We moved away from campus-centered care and towards community-centered impact as a major act of corporate responsibility by expanding health services to seventeen adjacent host towns.
“Our services include house-to-house vaccination campaigns, mobile outreach to correctional centres and orphanages, and free obstetric ultrasound scanning for pregnant women,” he announced.
The vice chancellor also mentioned that two new emergency hotlines have been set up to ensure that people can get in touch with doctors at any hour of the day or night.
He noted that some people in the community or students who live off campus break walls to make it easier to get in, but they don’t think about the security consequences.
Furthermore, Sabo bemoaned the fact that animals are able to access the school and wreak havoc on the surrounding vegetation.
In a stern warning to the host community, he emphasised that the institution would be increasing campus security.
Sabo also brought attention to the fact that the University is having trouble paying its utility bills because of the rise in electricity rates and the pitiful amount of money it receives in overhead funds.
He went on to criticise the university for neglecting a fundamental need: the absence of a suitable firefighting engine and equipment.
During Friday’s 8th and 9th joint convocation, the university graduated 4,277 students, as disclosed by the vice chancellor.
