Mahmuda,’ an alleged terrorist gang, has control over the Kaiama Local Government Area and its environs. On Monday, top military and intelligence officers, together with Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, performed a security assessment of the area.
According to a statement made by SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson of the state police command, in Ilorin on Tuesday, Governor Abdulrazaq and top military and intelligence leaders were in the area to examine security concerns and improve inter-agency coordination across border villages.
An official statement said that the purpose of the tour was to increase situational awareness in border villages and strengthen cooperation between different government agencies.
Major General O.G. Onubugu of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General E.B. Barkins of Sobi Cantonment, CP Adekimi Ojo of Kwara State Command, and Mr. Michael Aganwu of the Department of State Services were among those accompanying the governor. The Governor’s Senior Special Advisor on Security, Aliyu Muyideen, was among the others.
Among the important individuals who participated in the team’s strategic security interface were the Emir of Kaiama, Alh Muazu Shehu Omar (Bagidi Ki Yaru IV), as well as the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Abubakar Abdullahi Bata; Abdullahi Abubakar Danladi, Chairman of Kaiama LGA; Issa Jubril, Chairman of Baruten LGA; members of the State Assembly, and department heads.
The security architecture inside the axis of Kainji National Park, Karoji, and Kemenji was the main topic of discussion. After finishing their tour of the local oil mill, the delegation made it back to Ilorin without incident. The area is still under lockdown, and there is a strong security presence.
The residents of Kaiama, Baruten, and the surrounding communities can rest assured that the Kwara State Police Command has deployed and is further deploying sufficient security forces to prevent any potential threat to public safety.
Officials from the command stressed the importance of people not being afraid to engage in legitimate activities, as long as they stay alert and help the police.
A strong warning will be issued in compliance with the law against any person or organization that tries to jeopardize the safety of our communities, the statement declared emphatically.
