The ongoing by-election in Ondo South Senatorial District, Ondo State, has been reported as quiet.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa expressed pleasure with the level of voter turnout across the district’s six local government units, claiming that the process was orderly.
The by-election is being held to fill Senator Jimoh Ibrahim’s seat, which was left empty after President Bola Tinubu appointed him as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The battle will be held in the state’s local council districts of Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Okitipupa, Irele, Odigbo, and Ileoluji/Okeigbo.
Speaking with reporters shortly after casting his vote at Unit 05, Ward 4, Obenla community, Ilaje Local Council Area, Aiyedatiwa stated that the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Prof. Dayo Faduyile, had carried out extensive mobilisation efforts, which contributed to the high turnout.
According to him, party infrastructure across the district will continue to foster voter participation.
He stated, “We want to encourage everyone to vote because Ondo State is safe and we have a peaceful election. God has been assisting us, and our security agencies are up and running. Ondo State is one of the safest and most peaceful states in Nigeria.
“So, despite the fact that it is a by-election, we expect our people to show out. Our candidate, Professor Dayo Faduyile, has done a lot of effort, and the environment remains politically engaged beyond the primary election.
