Dare Bejide, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship candidate in the Ekiti State election, has claimed that vote buying occurred and that his driver was assaulted at his polling unit on Saturday.
Bejide, who voted at Polling Unit 004, Ward 2, Oke Adura, Ilawe-Ekiti, accused members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of blatantly handing money to voters in an attempt to sway the election results.
Speaking to journalists shortly after voting, the ADC candidate said that several APC figures, including local government officials, had assembled at the polling station with substantial sums of money for vote-buying.
He also claimed that his driver was injured during an altercation at the polling station while attempting to shield him from being pushed.
According to Bejide, the injured driver was then sent to a hospital for treatment.
The ADC flagbearer stated that the event had been reported to the police, but voiced disappointment with what he described as a poor response by security officers on the scene.
Bejide slammed the suspected vote-buying actions, calling them a violation of democratic norms and a disgrace to the election process.
