The transmission of energy from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has been disrupted, leaving some areas of Kaduna state without power.
The event took place at Tower Number 7, which is located in the Rigasa region of Igabi Local Government along the Kaduna Town Lines One and Two, according to a statement by Ndidi Mbah, the spokesman for TCN.
According to Mbah, the tower’s fall was accelerated by vandalism, as crucial structural components had been stolen and hidden. The collapse occurred following a severe rain and windstorm.
He claims that thousands of households and businesses in Kaduna South lost power because of the disruption in bulk power supply to multiple load centres.
Because of the tower fall, bulk power could not be transmitted to certain distribution load centres of Kaduna Electric, including those that service areas of Kaduna South.
As part of their investigation, TCN’s lineman found that the tower was vulnerable to collapse because vandals had removed multiple members.
The statement stated that TCN has recommended Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to connect its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with its 33kV Abakwa feeder so that electricity users in Mogadishu can continue to have access to power supply, in order to minimise the impact of the incident.
Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North are reportedly unaffected areas of the Kaduna capital, according to TCN.
It went on to say that its engineering crew has arrived at the scene to begin removing debris and re-erecting the tower.
To mitigate the effects of the power loss, TCN has instructed Kaduna Electric to connect the 33kV Mogadishu feeder to the 33kV Abakwa feeder, allowing for a partial restoration of service to the impacted districts.
