Address inconsistencies in the new tax law prior to its implementation – IPAC to the Nigerian government

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has reminded Nigeria’s government that the welfare of its citizens should always be a top priority in all policies and actions taken.

This statement was made in IPAC’s Christmas message, which was signed by Comrade Egbeola Wale Martins, the National Publicity Secretary.

The Council emphasized that this season offers a chance for deep reflection on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, focusing on his messages of salvation, love, peace, tolerance, and goodwill towards all.

IPAC encouraged Christians to take this sacred time to renew their faith in God and recommit to serving the nation selflessly.

“Nigeria is currently navigating a difficult period in its national journey, and this moment calls for collective prayers from all citizens for divine intervention, wisdom, and guidance as we work towards building a strong, united, equitable, prosperous, and just democratic society,” the statement expressed.

The Council also urged the Federal Government to listen to the desires and hopes of Nigerians and take immediate action to ease the hardships faced by citizens, in accordance with Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which asserts that the security and welfare of the people are the primary responsibilities of the government.

“At this crucial juncture, Nigerians seek and deserve real benefits from democracy. Therefore, the welfare of citizens must be a central focus in all government policies and actions, as sovereignty ultimately belongs to the people.”

IPAC further called on the Federal Government “to swiftly address the discrepancies noted between the newly gazetted tax law and the version approved by the National Assembly before it is put into effect.”

The Council urged the government to quickly resolve these matters to help ease tensions in the political landscape and boost public trust. The credibility, clarity, and acceptance of any law by the citizens are vital for its effectiveness.
