An early-morning explosion at Kaduna’s Mando Motor Park destroyed three luxury buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).
The event occurred around 3 a.m., as the vehicles were parked in preparation for interstate trips later that day.
The explosion occurred when the buses were idle, according to a manager of Silver Transport Company who asked to remain anonymous.
He added that the buses were newly purchased and that “no one was inside the vehicles.” They were waiting to board passengers this morning.”
He noted that the buses were fuelled by CNG, but expressed worries about its use.
He also stated that members of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant authorities were on the scene to investigate the cause of the explosion.
“They are carrying out investigations to ascertain what caused the incident,” he said.
According to a statement issued by the Kaduna State Police Command, the little explosion that happened early Sunday morning was not a bomb explosion.
DSP Mansir Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on Sunday stating, “We wish to set the record straight regarding reports of an alleged explosion in Kaduna by some media.”
“On April 5, 2026, at approximately 0300 hours, a loud sound was reported at Silver Luxury Travel, a luxurious bus travel firm based at Mando Motor Park, where the cars used petrol instead of diesel or petrol at Mando Garage, Kaduna.
“When detectives received the report, they went to the scene right away. According to preliminary findings, the event involved an LNG-propelled luxury bus owned by Silver Luxury Travel that exploded due to an overfilled petrol tank.
“The vehicle has been transported to a safe location, and the area has been secured. There were no casualties or property damage reported, and normal operations in the region have resumed.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Muhammad Rabiu, has subsequently ordered a complete investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident in order to prevent future occurrences, and the Nigeria Police Force’s bomb disposal squad has been rushed to the scene.
“The Kaduna State Police Command urges members of the public to verify information before sharing, particularly on matters relating to security, as the spread of unverified reports can cause unnecessary panic.”
