Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has informed the people that he is committed to establishing a future marked by hope and faith while supporting Christ-centered governance.
In his Easter sermon in Uyo on Sunday, the governor advised Nigerians to play politics of conviction rather than rancour as the political season began.
As the election season begins, I urge you, as I always do, to ensure that politics does not divide us; that we play politics of conviction rather than confrontation or attrition.
“Just as the Risen Christ brought hope, redemption, and salvation, we will continue to roll up our sleeves to improve our people’s welfare and well-being.” We shall shape a future defined by optimism and faith in the uplifting principles of a Christ-centered government that we promised you,” Eno added.
The governor, while listing his accomplishments in all areas since taking office, particularly in the last calendar year, thanked the people for believing in him and supporting his decision to align the state with the centre by joining the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
”With your overwhelming support, we made a decisive and timely progressive push to align our state with the center, and given the developing political realities today, you will agree that we were correct in our decision.”
Speaking about the state’s poor electricity supply, the governor indicated that following the passage of the Federal Electricity Act of 2023 and the Power Summit held in the state last September, a detailed Power Roadmap has been launched and would be implemented by experts.
He stated that his government has formed the Akwa Ibom State energy Regulatory Commission and the Akwa Ibom State Electrification Agency to begin the process of implementing energy generation and distribution in the state.
“In the coming weeks, we will reveal the names of the five specialists who will lead the commission, and I am sure that the State House of Assembly will quickly confirm their nominations.
“We understand the hardship that our people are experiencing due to the epileptic power supply. Even though this is a national issue, we are on our way to providing reliable electricity to our people,” he continued.
