Anambra State police in Iyiowa Odekpe, in the Ogbaru Local Government Area, found a human body with severe burns at a trash dump.
Officials from the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, made the announcement in a press statement, saying that on Wednesday, while on patrol, police officers found the body parts.
According to him, on May 7, 2025, at around 12:30 pm, police officers from the Atani Divisional Police Headquarters were on patrol in Iyiowa Odekpe when they discovered a corpse that had been burned.
The dead person may have been a victim of the jungle court system. It appears that he was complicit in the theft of automobile batteries, according to initial investigations. According to reports, he was caught and burned alive in the wee hours of the morning by an angry mob, while his collaborators ran away.
According to SP Ikenga, Anambra State Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu has denounced the unlawful death with utmost conviction.
The commissioner said that people should stop using “jungle justice” to catch criminals and instead call the police so that they can investigate the matter properly.
Police will be able to investigate the suspects’ claimed crimes more thoroughly, catch their fugitives, and punish those responsible according to the law, according to CP Orutugu.
