Atiku will step aside for Peter Obi if he gets the ADC presidential ticket

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated his willingness to step aside for Peter Obi if the ex-Anambra governor is chosen as the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) presidential candidate in 2027.

During an interview with Arise News on Wednesday evening, Atiku was asked explicitly if he would step aside if Obi won the ADC presidential primary.

Atiku and Peter Obi are seen as the front-runners for the ADC’s presidential ticket.

Others, like Rabiu Kwankwaso and Rotimi Amaechi, are reported to be in the running for the ADC ticket.

When asked if he would step down for Obi if the former Labour Party presidential candidate received the ADC ticket, Atiku responded, “Yes, I will step aside for any winner.”

When asked if “any winner includes Peter Obi”, Atiku responded, “Of course, if he is a contender, why not?”

When questioned if it would be difficult for him to do so because Obi was his vice presidential running mate, Atiku responded, “What is the difficulty there? It’s democracy. It’s either consensus or election. You emerge either by consensus or through the election process.
