The spouse of Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, has urged pregnant women and nursing mothers in Abia State to steer clear of quacks and unreliable medical services.
Mrs Otti encouraged the expectant mothers to make use of government medical facilities instead. She shared this advice on Thursday at Akrika Ukwu Primary Healthcare Centre in Ukwa East LGA, where the first baby of the year, Miss Oluebubechi Nwatuobi, was born.
Mrs Otti expressed her happiness that the first baby was born in a government-operated primary healthcare centre, stating that it showcased the enhancement and effectiveness of the primary healthcare system in Abia State.
She noted that pregnant women and nursing mothers receive superior care in government primary healthcare centres.
Mrs Otti, who presented the newborn and her mother with various food items, cash, and other essentials, explained that this gesture was intended to support the mother’s nutrition and overall health during the nursing phase.
Additionally, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, mentioned that some pregnant women and nursing mothers had previously lost their lives due to quack medical practitioners, highlighting that this issue has been addressed by Governor Alex Otti’s administration.
In response, the parents of the newborn, Mr Nwatuobi Chiagozie and Mrs Blessing Chinagozie, expressed their gratitude to Mrs Otti for the gifts.
