Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, along with his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, are set to stay in Kuje Prison until January 7, when their bail applications will be reviewed.
On Friday, Justice Emeka Nwite issued this order after hearing arguments for and against the bail requests submitted by Malami and his son, who are facing a N9 billion money laundering charge filed by the Federal Government.
Malami, his son, and Hajia Bashir Asabe, an employee of Ramadiya Property Limited, will remain incarcerated until January 7, when the judge will announce the decision regarding their bail applications.
Justice Emeka Nwite stated that he has several other cases to address as a vacation judge, which is why he cannot deliver the ruling until the specified date.
Joseph Daudu, SAN, represented the three defendants in their bail applications, while Emmanuel Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, opposed the motion on behalf of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Malami and his co-defendants have pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against them by the EFCC on behalf of the Federal Government.
