The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that seven individuals perished and five others were injured in a catastrophic road incident on the Bauchi-Maiduguri Highway on Saturday.
According to the FRSC Sector Command in Bauchi, the accident occurred in Kajutu village, Bauchi State, and involved a commercial Galaxy Sharon bus with registration number KRF 198XA and a MAN diesel dump truck without a registration number.
According to the command, the crash occurred at approximately 12:05 p.m. It was reported to the FRSC two minutes later, and rescue services arrived on the scene at 12:22 p.m.
Preliminary The corps’ investigations concluded that the incident was caused by a traffic signal violation and unsafe driving on a bumpy portion of the paved road.
The accident involved 12 people, including ten adult males, one adult female, and one male youngster. Seven adult males died, while five others—three adult males, one adult female, and one male child—were injured.
The victims were identified as Garba Babaji, Alkali Galadima, Aliyu Samanja, Abba Abbo, Amadu Guruza, Rabiu Baura, and Ibrahim Gucho Officer.
The fatalities were claimed to come from the Misau Local Government Area in Bauchi state.
The FRSC stated that its rescue team took the injured victims and the corpses of the deceased to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where the injured are being treated and the deaths have been confirmed.
Items found at the scene were six Android phones, five keypad phones, ₦34,250 in cash, three caps, a travel bag, and a wallet.
In response to the tragedy, former politician Senator Isah Hamma Misau conveyed condolences to the lost families and the people of Misau, characterising the occurrence as tragic.
He prayed for the victims’ souls and urged motorists to properly follow traffic laws to help prevent such tragedies on the nation’s highways.
