Former Aston Villa striker Alan McInally has urged Celtic manager Martin O’Neill to keep Kelechi Iheanacho beyond the club’s approaching summer transfer window.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Iheanacho’s future at Celtic remains unknown.
The Nigerian striker moved to the Scottish champions from Sevilla on a free transfer last summer.
The former Manchester City player had signed a one-year contract, with Celtic having the option to extend it by another year.
However, Iheanacho will officially become a free agent, and McInally has now made his decision on the player’s future.
Speaking to the Daily Record (via The Herald), McInally said of Iheanacho, “I would keep him.”
“If he can perform as well as he did in the last six games of the season, he is clearly worth keeping.”
“That is the fundamental question, however. It’s about keeping him fit. I am not sure if he is having too much fun in Glasgow; perhaps Martin should tag him.
“It is up to him to maintain the discipline and mindset required to perform consistently.
“Some players need a kick, and others need a hug, although most want a hug these days, but if Martin feels he can get him going again, then he is definitely worth keeping.”
