In response to Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s remarks about the forthcoming UEFA Europa Conference League final, Simon Jordan—a former chairman of Crystal Palace—has taken aim. Next Wednesday, the Conference League final will pit Real Betis against Chelsea.
The fact that Real Betis would have more time to prepare for the Conference League final after their last LaLiga encounter reportedly irritated Maresca, according to BBC Sport.
According to The Chelsea Chronicle, Jordan told Maresca not to worry too much during an interview with talkSPORT, explaining that he should have no trouble winning the Conference League nonetheless.
“Perhaps you could have put the reserves out [this weekend] if you had finished the job, so pack it in,” Jordan said. Playing in the pub Conference League is, like, the absolute lowest line.
Regardless, I think you have what it takes to win. I can assure you that Betis will provide you with more challenging opponents than what you’ve faced before.
