Two recreation centres and one hundred eighty other structures along the Okun-Ajah, Eti-Osa axis in Lagos State have been sealed by the state government’s Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development.
The refusal to comply with summonses over encroachment on State-owned territory led to the sealing of the relaxation resorts, Timeless Beach and Iceland Beach. Ministerial Commissioner Dayo Alebiosu oversaw the drill, which commenced on Monday morning.
The State Government instituted stringent enforcement steps after the defaulters continued to disregard many letters and summonses, according to Alebiosu, who was quoted in a statement signed by Akodu Morenikeji, the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs.
The encroachers were met with a frown from Alebiosu, who said that they had intentionally disregarded multiple warnings issued by the State Government.
He made it clear that he would not stand for such flagrant disobedience to established norms and property rights. Despite the State Government’s best efforts, the affected parties have refused to cooperate, leaving us with no choice but to engage them.
Over 40 offenders who had already served their sentences and met all legal conditions were accommodated and given E-Survey documents, according to the Commissioner.
