An AK-47-wielding accused bandit was caught in Gwadabawa local government area by the Sokoto State Police Command as part of a coordinated operation.
According to a statement released by DSP Ahmad Rufai, the command spokesperson, the culprit was identified as David Rabiu Antoro, also known as “Abubakar” from Tungar Tudu village. The Sokoto State Community Guards initially apprehended him on May 10, 2025, along with two goats that were believed to have been stolen.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was then given the suspect to question in order to gain direct intelligence. He admitted to having an AK-47 firearm on him during questioning.
Following this lead, on June 23, 2025, members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Sokoto State Command conducted a search on the suspect’s residence in Mammansuka village. During the operation, they seized an AK-47 weapon along with its empty magazine.
The operation, which resulted in the arrest and recovery, was praised by the Commissioner of Police. He also noted that it is part of a bigger effort to dismantle criminal enterprises that make public spaces hazardous.
Public safety has been enhanced, and the leadership of the Sokoto State Police is working tirelessly to apprehend and punish all of the perpetrators, according to the statement.
