ISWAP attacks a military base in Borno, killing two troops and scores of militants.

At least two soldiers and an unspecified number of ISWAP fighters were killed during an attack on the Forward Operating Base, FOB MAGUMERI, in Borno State’s Magumeri Local Government Area, Sector 3.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force, revealed that the incident occurred on Thursday early, when the daredevil terrorists attempted to infiltrate the position in bad visibility.

The statement indicated that, despite minor breaches on an isolated portion of the military station, troops fought gallantly and decisively to contain and destroy the attack “by neutralising scores of terrorists”.

“It is crucial to note that additional investigation of the general region showed substantial blood trails, body drags, and the retrieval of terrorist bodies, proving the heavy fatalities suffered by the attackers during the failed assault.

“Troops also seized a substantial stockpile of weapons and ammunition from the fleeing terrorists, including PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, AK 47 rifles, and magazines.

“Regrettably, two brave warriors paid the ultimate price during the conflict, while an officer and other wounded men are currently stable and receiving appropriate medical care.

“Additionally, some equipment was damaged by fire during the engagement as well as temporary structures which caught fire during the intense battle,” he said.
