Windstorms have reportedly caused devastation on many towns in Kebbi State’s Suru Local Government Area, destroying houses, food storage facilities, and property worth millions of naira.
Faruku Abubakar Maisudan, a member of the Kebbi State House of Assembly representing the Suru Constituency, told reporters that he visited the affected communities to assess the extent of the damage and sympathise with the victims. He named the communities as Sambera, Jeroki, Becinga, Nassarawa, Tunga Soja, Tauken Mage, Tunga Muminu Oro, and Ciwan Wanzam.
He claimed the storm, which hit on Wednesday night, caused severe devastation in the area, displacing several families after their homes were damaged or totally blown away.
He confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident and stated, “My heart goes out to you in this difficult moment, and I urge you to accept it as a trial from Almighty Allah.”
The congressman informed the victims that he will bring the case before the Assembly and Governor Nasir Idris to ensure prompt government action.
“I will ensure your condition is presented to the appropriate authorities so that immediate support can reach you without delay,” he stated.
Officials from the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency, who accompanied the congressman on the assessment tour, also promised a prompt response and relief supplies for the affected residents.
