The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old female and a nursing worker in connection with the purported kidnapping of a one-and-a-half-year-old male infant from the paediatric ward of Babura General Hospital.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, revealed this in a statement sent to the press on Thursday.
The report indicates that Khadija Aliyu, a resident of Kinkinau Quarters in Kaduna State, was apprehended after the hospital sent a distress call over the child’s absence.
Law enforcement officials located the suspect on the periphery of Babura town, where she was purportedly discovered with the kidnaped youngster.
The authorities reported that additional enquiries resulted in the apprehension of Sadik Sale Yahaya, 25, a nursing officer affiliated with Babura General Hospital, who purportedly colluded with the woman to execute the kidnapping.
SP Shiisu reported that the female suspect admitted during questioning that she had transported the child to an orphanage in Kaduna State with the aim of selling the infant for N2 million.
The salvaged youngster has been sent to protective custody and is anticipated to be reunited with the family following the fulfilment of requisite protocols.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, praised the officers for their courage and expertise in saving the youngster and detaining the culprits.
