Agboola Olamilekan, a suspected cultist, was arrested by police in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state.
According to a statement issued by the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, the suspect was apprehended during a combined security operation in Ilorin on Wednesday. One firearm was also confiscated.
“The operation, carried out by police operatives in coordination with other security agencies and the Kwara State Polytechnic Security Unit, resulted in the arrest of Agboola Olamilekan, a suspected cultist who was discovered in possession of a locally made pistol.
“The operation forms part of the command’s sustained efforts to disrupt cult-related activities, curb the proliferation of illegal firearms, and deny criminal elements the opportunity to thrive within Kwara state,” the statement continued.
Ojo Adekimi, State Commissioner of Police, reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the operational momentum against cultism and other violent crimes, noting that each successful operation represents another step toward dismantling criminal networks and improving public safety across the state through proactive and intelligence-led policing.
He stated that an investigation was ongoing to find and apprehend other members of the criminal network linked to the suspect.
He emphasised that the state police command would continue to advance the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu,’s policing strategy through intelligence-led policing, strategic collaborations, and persistent operations to dismantle criminal groupings.
