The Kwara State Police Command has initiated an inquiry into the murder of a farmer, Abdulazeez Abubakar Abiodun, also known as Azeez Garba or “Kebe”, whose lifeless body was discovered on his cocoa estate in the state’s Isin Local Government Area.
Garba was reportedly killed by unknown assailants on his field along the Owa-Onire axis, with preliminary examinations revealing serious machete wounds.
The tragedy was brought to light after the deceased’s daughter, Rofiat, posted an account of his death on social media, detailing how the family looked for her father after he failed to return home from his farm on July 11, 2026.
According to her, Garba left his home in Isalu around 7:00 a.m. for his cocoa farm, where he worked every day, but did not return at the scheduled time.
“We initially suspected he had been kidnapped and waited anxiously, expecting someone to contact us and demand a ransom.” However, no call ever arrived,” she explained.
She further stated that local hunters later discovered his death in a neighbouring thicket.
“They discovered my father’s lifeless body in the bush.” “His two hands were tied, and he was brutally murdered,” she explained.
SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed the event in a statement on Tuesday, stating that Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi has ordered an investigation into the killing.
She stated that the police commissioner condemned the murder as “cruel, senseless, and unacceptable,” and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to use all available investigative and intelligence resources to locate, hunt down, and apprehend those involved.
“While no arrest has been made as of the time of this release, the command wishes to assure the bereaved family, the people of Isin Local Government Area, and the general public that every available lead is being diligently pursued,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
