The Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, or BoT, has selected former Niger State Governor Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu as its Secretary.
The appointment was overwhelmingly confirmed at the BoT’s expanded emergency meeting in Asokoro, Abuja, following discussions on major problems impacting the party’s leadership and internal structure.
The conference, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, brought together top party officials to discuss recent developments inside the PDP, particularly in the aftermath of the Court of Appeal decision on March 9, 2026.
In a communiqué issued on Wednesday by the Chairman of the BoT, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the board stated that it carefully evaluated problems concerning the party’s leadership in light of the appellate court decision.
According to the communiqué, the board unanimously accepted Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu’s nomination as Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees in accordance with Section 32 of the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017).
It begins as follows: “The BoT, pursuant to Section 32 of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu as the Secretary of the Board.”
The board further stated that the expanded meeting was held to thoroughly assess the party’s leadership crisis and create a clear route forward for the PDP following the appellate court verdict.
At the meeting, party officials underlined their commitment to strengthening the party’s internal institutions and assuring PDP stability in preparation for future political engagements.
