The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has revealed that police have detained seven instructors for alleged examination misconduct during a nationwide evaluation exercise.
Professor Haruna Musa, the Executive Chairman of the Board, said this while supervising the exercise at various centres, stressing that the affected teachers had been handed over to security authorities for further inquiry.
He stated that the measure is part of the continuing state government attempts to overhaul the education sector.
He regarded the assessment as an important step toward enhancing the quality of basic education in Jigawa State.
According to him, the exercise is designed to raise teaching standards and ensure that only skilled and committed teachers remain in the system.
Professor Musa emphasised the government’s commitment to reducing learning poverty and improving educational results through increased accountability.
He cautioned that examination malpractice would not be accepted, citing it as a significant danger to the educational system’s legitimacy.
More than 8,400 teachers participated in the Teacher Training Needs Assessment, which was conducted across the state to assess their competency and suggest areas for development.
