Thanks to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) opening a second lane, commuters and motorists no longer had to endure the bottleneck that plagued the Abuja-Lokoja motorway.
Reports from Tuesday morning indicate that traffic on the Lokoja-Kotonkarfe-Abuja and Abuja-Koton-Karfe-Lokoja roads is flowing smoothly in Koton-Karfe.
According to Mr. Kumar Tsukwam, Sector Commander in Kogi for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the terrible congestion that started on Sunday has been ultimately addressed by taking strong action.
To alleviate the situation and find a solution, we met with the Federal Ministry of Works and the construction companies along the route as a proactive step.
The contractors should expedite the operations and build a new route to make traffic flow more smoothly, for one thing.
As things are, there is far less congestion at the Koton-karfe and nearby. A debt of gratitude is due to the joint efforts of military personnel, Corridor 3, RS8.33 Koton-karfe Unit Command, RS8.3 Kogi Sector, and himself, he added.
According to him, in order to alleviate traffic congestion in the corridor, vehicles were redirected to utilise the newly constructed Lokoja/Abuja lane.
The Sector Commander stressed again that drivers of smaller cars were the primary aggravators due to their lack of discipline, impatience, and lane violations.
His information is that the FRSC has increased the number of officers stationed along the Koton-Karfe axis in an effort to reduce traffic congestion and improve visibility by bobbing up petrol.
He pleaded with drivers to be more responsible and disciplined on the roads so that the terrible congestion that frustrated so many people wouldn’t happen again.
Since Sunday, when traffic began to build up along the Abuja–Lokoja highway due to drivers’ lack of patience, the FRSC has voiced its displeasure.
Travellers were experiencing immense hardships due to the jam, as they were forced to endure eight to 10 hours of journey time only to reach Abuja or Lokoja.
