On May 15, 2026, gunmen kidnapped pupils, students, and instructors from Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community Grammar School, and L.A Primary School (Esiele), all in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area. Some singers have joined the demand for their rescue.
According to the 39 children and seven teachers were abducted, with two teachers killed, igniting national indignation.
Victony, a singer, responded by demanding that President Bola Tinubu address the country’s insecurity and rescue all kidnapped victims, particularly children.
He commented on his X handle, “Save our children & put an end to this mess @officialABAT.”
In a similar vein, Davido expressed his sincere sadness over the incident and the victims’ continued suffering in captivity.
He stated that the current situation of instability cannot be allowed to continue.
The musician responded to a report about the victims’ continuous ordeals in the kidnapping camp on his Snapchat site, writing, “I’m weak. God, please take charge. We can’t go on like this. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. This is messed up.
Timaya, for his part, issued a statement urging the Presidency to take quick action to address the country’s rising insecurity.
“We appeal to the Government for even greater urgency, collaboration, and action in addressing the growing security challenges facing many parts of our country,” the statement reads in part.
