High Chief Tijani Abioye, a prominent figure in the art of kingmaking in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has gone away.
Abioye was the third of the six acknowledged kingmakers in the old town of Ogbomosoland, and he reverently retained the traditional title of Bara of Ogbomosoland until his death.
The high chief reportedly passed away on Sunday due to health issues associated with ageing, as reported by relatives.
His Imperial Majesty, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, the direct predecessor of the Soun of Ogbomoso, placed Abioye as Bara in the early 1980s.
According to someone close to the late Abioye, who spoke with Naijatrial, he was a senior kingmaker and had a significant role in the community.
He passed away yesterday. He occupied the third spot. According to the source, Ogbomoso is home to six kingmakers. Additionally, he oversaw the town’s farmers.
There is a huge hole in the town’s council of kingmakers now that he has passed away, signalling the end of an age in traditional leadership in Ogbomoso.
