A total of N14,911,511 has been dispersed among eighteen families of deceased police men in Adamawa State by the Nigeria Police Force.
The Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme provided the next-of-kin of the policemen who passed away with cheques of varied amounts, given by Dankombo Morris, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police.
At Monday’s presenting ceremony at Yola’s State Police Command Headquarters, CP Morris expressed the thanks of the police leadership to the departed officers on behalf of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police.
These brave individuals sacrificed themselves while serving their country. “We can’t guarantee their return, but we can offer some solace to the families they abandoned,” Morris stated.
He emphasised that the approximately N15 million payout was a part of the IGP’s larger pledge to prioritise the welfare of officers, whether they are serving, retired, or deceased, during his tenure.
According to Morris, the money will help families cope with life after a breadwinner dies. It will come from the Group Life Assurance and the Family Welfare Scheme.
“I thought the police had forgotten about us,” remarked Mrs. Christiana Garba, whose husband, Inspector Garba, died in a battle with kidnappers last year.
She is one of the widows who will profit from this. This check, nevertheless, shows that they did recall. The sum distributed to each recipient was proportional to the officer’s rank at the time of death.
More information on the event was offered by SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police public relations officer for the Adamawa Command. Nguroje said that the event demonstrated the leadership’s commitment to reform.
