In an attempt to prevent unrest, the Kano State Police Command has once again banned the two Emirs of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ii and Aminu Ado Bayero, from celebrating Eid-Kabir Sallah in any way.
The Command PPRO, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, stated on Tuesday that the state’s festivities will be held without incident thanks to the extensive security measures that have been put in place.
He emphasised that security forces are prepared to safeguard lives and property, so worshippers should be law-abiding and polite.
After receiving credible information about threats from criminals who wanted to use the Eid-El-Fitr celebrations to disrupt public order, the police reminded the public that they had previously banned Durbar activities during the festival. The Command has decided to keep the prohibition in place for the upcoming Eid-El-Kabir because these security concerns are still present.
Intelligence assessments indicated that certain groups planned to use Durbar festivities to instigate violence and disorder, therefore this decision was reached after consultations with security partners, according to the statement.
Strict adherence to the following security standards has been defined: Kilisa, the riding of horses or other animals is never allowed; Driving in a rash or unsafe manner is not allowed;
No open or concealed carrying of a handgun or other weapon; Do not bring anything that could incite dread or suspicion.
Warning their children and wards against subversive activities, parents and guardians should know that law enforcement will not hesitate to impose these measures.
In addition, the Command urged locals not to do anything that could endanger the peace or endanger the safety of others.
