In the last match of their group at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Algeria’s Fennecs held Nigeria’s Super Falcons to a scoreless draw. The team captained by Justine Madugu was victorious in Group B, earning seven points after three games.
On Friday, the nine-time winners will square off against Zambia’s Copper Queens in the quarterfinals. Even though Nigeria had most of the ball, Algeria’s defence held firm.
In the first half, Jennifer Echegini and Ifeoma Onumonu were among Nigeria’s nearly-goal scorers. In the second half, the Super Falcons had a hard time generating scoring opportunities.
With five points after three matches, Algeria came in second place in their group. In the other group match, Botswana and Tunisia played to a 1-1 tie.
