Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has urged the people to protect the sacred connection that brings them together, irrespective of their ethno-religious or political backgrounds.
In a Christmas message released by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Zulum conveyed warm wishes to Christians throughout the state, expressing gratitude to God for allowing them to celebrate another festive season.
Currently on a four-day tour focused on security and resilience in northern Borno, the governor is visiting military bases to uplift troop spirits and engage with communities impacted by insurgency to restore confidence and provide tangible democratic benefits.
Zulum emphasized the advancements Borno has achieved over the past year, not just in infrastructure but also in fostering peace, goodwill, and harmonious living between Muslim and Christian communities, despite the challenges posed by Boko Haram insurgency.
He mentioned his recent discussions with the leadership of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, and the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, aimed at enhancing cooperation between the state government and religious organizations to tackle insecurity and promote enduring peace.
“Our strength lies in our shared lives,” Zulum remarked. “Brothers, sisters, uncles, and aunts often share a home, enjoying meals, celebrations, and sorrows together, rising above religious distinctions.
This sacred bond must be cherished in our homes and communities.”
He called on all citizens, regardless of their faith, to come together in the quest for lasting security, peace, and harmonious coexistence, which he identified as essential pillars for true reconstruction, recovery, and prosperity in Borno State.
