Samsudeen Apelogun, national president of ACOMORAN (Nigerian Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners, Repairs and Riders Association), has called on all members of the organization to earn a diploma or degree that meets the country’s minimal requirement.
In order to change how the public views the association and its members, this action is required, according to Apelogun. He stressed how important it is to dispel the myth that association members are nothing more than touts.
On Wednesday, during the 2025 Ogun ACOMORAN inauguration at its secretariat in Abeokuta, this charge was made by the National President, accompanied by the National Secretary, Idris Mohammed; Olaoluwa Ogundare, who is also the chairman of Lagos State; and Waheed Olaoluwa, the association’s legal adviser, among others.
Kayode Showunmi, Muritado Yusuf, Agboola Fatai, Are Fatai, Alowolodu Adeleke, Olaleye Zacchaeus, and a host of others make up the 25-member executive committee that was recently inaugurated, according to Naijatrial. Their term will be five years.
The speaker, Apelogun, also known as “Allrounder,” emphasized the importance of members improving themselves if they want to run for state or national office. He also mentioned that the association’s constitution states that candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
A necessary update, he stated. Anyone seeking to run for any office in ACOMORAN is required by law to have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Some of you do not meet the qualifications to serve on the ACOMORAN state executive, as we learned when we received the LOC report. We can’t just hand the title to someone who isn’t qualified even though they really meet all the standards.
People think our union is full of touts, and we need to change their minds. No longer can you hold any public office without first improving and adjusting yourself. Just keep in mind that there is still time if you can control yourself and are content with where you are right now.
If we want to put someone in charge, they should be able to represent us well. The ACOMORAN constitution has been around for a long time; it clearly states that there are conditions that one must meet in order to run for any office, from the state level all the way up to the national level.
According to the National President, women are now expected to hold 40% of the association’s leadership positions at the national and state levels due to changes in the organization’s operational structure. She urged women to step up and take on leadership roles within the association.
The newly re-elected chairman, Kayode Showunmi, reassured members that they would continue to work together and that he would bring new ideas to help the organization succeed in the state during his acceptance address.
