The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Martins Vincent Otse, better known by his stage name VeryDarkMan (VDM), a prominent Nigerian social media influencer. An official Facebook post by activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju on Friday night confirmed this.
The arrest of VDM was reportedly requested by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) after the latter voiced his disapproval of the bank in response to allegations of unauthorised transactions made from his mother’s account.
The head of the legal team representing VDM, Marvin Omorogbe, recently met with his friend, who was also detained by the EFCC, according to an update by Adeyanju.
VDM has stated his intention to remain in his cell and avoid human contact. In order for the EFCC to apprehend VDM and his companion, he was held for more than five minutes inside the GTB exit door. He announced online that they would be suing GTB for their “inhumane treatment” of his client.
