The federal government reimbursed the Nasarawa State Government for the Lafia Cargo Airport, which is now officially known as Usman Dan Fodio Airport, with a sum of ₦9.54 billion.
During a session for high-level stakeholders at Lafia’s Government House on Monday, Governor Abdullahi Sule made the news.
After former president Muhammadu Buhari formally opened the airport three years ago, in 2022, the federal government assumed control of it.
The administration of Governor Sule has been relentless in its pursuit of repayment of the monies used for its construction ever since.
Traditional elders and National Assembly members who played a key role in getting the reimbursement approved by the federal government were present at the meeting.
The governor publicly acknowledged receipt of the much-anticipated payment and took the opportunity to thank them for their assistance.
The meeting’s attendees were quite complimentary of Governor Sule’s candor and dedication to development.
Capital projects that aim to improve access and economic activity in remote areas of the state, such as rural road construction, were also a major topic of discussion when it came to deploying the funds for infrastructure development.
