Mercy Johnson-Okojie, an actress in Nigerian cinema, has spoken publicly about her battles with health and her unexpected weight loss. Earlier last month, the movie star’s dramatic weight drop caused quite a stir online, as previously reported by Naijatrial.
While speaking with seasoned actress Joke Silva recently, Okojie revealed that she had a near-death experience with cancer and had her thyroid surgically removed.
A thyroidectomy was performed after she had a “cancer scare,” she explained. We had to keep telling ourselves, “This is the new us; let’s go get the surgery,” because having children is a constant struggle for us. My youngest was six months old when I had my final child.
Upon arrival, they informed me that I would require lifelong medicine. They made us sit down and go over the side effects and how important it was that I take my medication as prescribed. Accordingly, I’m making peace with this [my weight reduction]. Now that you’ve come to terms with where we are, I think we can both thrive in our current situation.
