Super Eagles left-back Bruno Onyeamachi has received plaudits from former Nigerian coach Sunday Oliseh for his outstanding performance against Morocco in the AFCON semifinal.
Brahim Diaz, the tournament’s top scorer with five goals, was Morocco’s biggest threat, but Onyeamachi held him off.
Diaz was on track to become the first player in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations to score in six straight games.
Ilias Akhomach took Diaz’s place later in extra time after the Olympiacos defence prevented the Real Madrid winger from scoring.
Oliseh gave Onyeamachi praise after the game, stating that the Nigerian defender did a fantastic job of matching Diaz’s intensity and efficiency.
“Bruno is working very hard to keep Brahim Diaz silent. It appears that this is the first time Diaz has been defeated,” Oliseh remarked in a SuperSport comment.
Nigeria didn’t make it to the final, though, in spite of Onyeamachi’s excellent defensive effort. Nigeria fell 4-2 in the penalty shootout after the game ended with no goals scored.
